Spring Time For New Beginnings For Your Body and Soul

How to get the most from this Spring time energy for your body and your soul...

Spring has arrived across the UK. As the season of new beginnings, transformations and transition, spring gives us a glimpse of what’s ahead in the summer.

Springtime is an opportunity for new beginnings and a fresh outlook on the year ahead. Where we revive and refresh after the winter colder months. We can utilise this time to develop our mind and body giving space to grow mentally and physically.

Saying goodbye to any negativity you may be hanging onto and welcoming into our lives some positive new changes. This goes for our bodies too, a perfect time to rejuvenate and hydrate our skin, and make time for our own wellbeing.

It's a season that draws in more light and asks us to set our intention for the coming months with more hope, optimism, and alignment to who we really are. It encourages us to up-level our commitment to ourselves we wish to see – outside ourselves and within, reminding us that we are a part of the whole. It begs us to stop the destructive narrative, the blame and shame, the inner and outer judgment that gets in the way of experiencing love for ourselves, each other, and all of life. It's about taking some well deserved time off, weather thats a holiday, a retreat, or time to ourselves to enjoy a relaxing facial, massage or an energy healing session to balance out our energies and to increase you energy frequency.

We are in one of the most powerful times of the year, not only did we just have The Spring Equinox, as well as the clocks just going back here in the UK and Easter is just a week or so away. There is a huge focus this month on healing, on awareness, and on awareness that leads to healing. A few of the themes for that came through for this month are:

We're All going to feel a lot more open & Inspired to create the life that we wish to have, a healthier and happier one.

You’ll hopefully feel more motivated and energised more than ever. March marked a major adjustment period, but the rest of this time period is all about springing forward.

The Spring Equinox symbolises new beginnings and rebirth. The event is called an equinox as in Latin it means “equal night”. This event marks the start of spring resulting in increasing daylight hours and warming temperatures due to the northern hemisphere tilting towards the sun.

Spring is the season during which the natural world revives and reinvigorates after the colder winter months. During spring, dormant plants begin to grow again, new seedlings sprout out of the ground and hibernating animals awake

Just like nature, our bodies and our energies are in-sinc with this awakening energy.

But what is awakening and emerging within you right now?

What are your yearning for?

What is your soul seeking right now?

What are you ready to allow yourself to have and recieve now?

And what is it that you are seeing and witnessing within your right now, whats coming up for you energy wise?

Ask yourself what is emerging for you now?:

  • My body is yearning for.....

  • My soul is seeking...

  • I am ready to allow myself....

  • I am witnessing...

If you are stuck, here are answers to these same questions from my own journal. I find this process rejuvenating, calming, and helpful to allow me to see what is fresh, now.

My body is yearning for ... Yoga and gentle moving, Hugs, Massage, Energy healing, relaxing Baths, taking time out, having a holiday or time away and just being.

My soul is seeking... To express itself through relaxing meditations, nature bathing, outdoor wanders, practicing presence, deep listening, words - spoken and and written, cooking, hiking, being, Goddess time, Family time, hobby time, sacred time to myself.

I am ready to allow myself.... To receive Love, unconditional acceptance, presence, care, time out for myself, relaxation, peace, stillness and kindness.

I am witnessing... How easy it is to place our worth outside of ourselves. And yet, when we shift our focus from outside to within we see more, feel more, and know more of who we really are. Each moment is an invitation to unconditionally love ourselves, look after ourselves compassionatly - to healthy nutritious food and drinks, get out more in nature for fresh air and exercise and to give ourselves time to relax, take time out, time away for us to indulge and enjoy our own peace and relaxation, and to be own light we wish to see.

The seasons have a direct effect on our health, affecting the balance of the elements inside each one of us. In Chinese Medicine it is encouraged that as the seasons change, we should adapt accordingly to promote good health. By living in harmony with the environment, we can prevent illness and imbalance.

Spring is the season for rebirth, renewal and re-growth. It is when we move from the darkness of winter (the yin part of the year) into the light (towards the yang part).

Below are my ’top tips' to help you spring forward to better wellbeing.

1. LOOK AFTER YOUR LIVER

According to TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) spring is associated with the liver. Did you know that your liver is one of the most important organs for renewing, cleaning and energising the body? TCM teaches us that when the liver is running smoothly, emotional Qi (life force energy) will flow with ease throughout the body. The liver is responsible for metabolism of fat, detoxification of drugs, breaking down carbohydrates and producing heat for the body.

How To Help Your Liver?:

• The liver is the organ relating to emotion in Chinese Medicine theory. Releasing negative emotions from this organ helps us to feel reinvigorated and ready for new beginnings. Try something new or refocus your energy on a goal that you may have let slip.

• The liver opens into the eyes. Remember to take breaks when looking at a computer monitor for extended periods of time and do eye exercises.

• The liver controls the tendons, so start stretching every day. Stretching is good as it will open the pathways of the liver and gallbladder, avoiding stagnation and the many health problems that can arise when these organs are in bad shape.

• The liver is related to your ability to plan ahead, while the gallbladder is related to your ability to finalise decisions. Be positive to protect these vital organs, allowing yourself to grow as nature intended.

The liver is also associated to the Solar Plexus Chakra which is your personal power, sense of purpose and identity. The "Will" to do things, your willpower, determination, discipline, endurance, organisation, accountability, confidence, self-worth, courage, energy, positivity, clarity of judgement, clear direction, self-assurance and self-acceptance, trust, faith, personal responsibility, accepting you gut feeling, fearlessness, independence, intellect, meeting challenges and moving forward in life.

It relates to the energy of the sun and is our very own personal, fiery furnace. The element for the Solar Plexus is fire. Activating the fire within moderate body temperature helps in food digestion. It represents the colour yellow that brings brightness and balance of energy

This chakra is all about honouring yourself, taking care of yourself, and forming an intuitive voice from within “the Self,” which then becomes our natural source of guidance.

It's about leaning and comprehension. The ability to bring change into your life and to the world, is all born within this chakra.

This is where your self-esteem comes from. And it is also the energy of anger and frustration and annoyance that sits along your solar plexus area, just underneath your ribcage and just towards your belly button and waist. It is also associated with other organs of the body such as the pancreas, stomach, digestive system, large intestines and small intestines, adrenal gland, lung, spleen and gallbladder. Which all help the body to cleanse and process not only food and waste, but also our emotions and feelings.

This is where I notice my clients most tension in this area, especially along the spine when I massage them. We often draw in energy from this region from the world around us and from others. Plus this is ushally where stress is kept. That is why having a cleanse and balancing the energy here, is key to help your body and mind to feel well, alive and energised through this powerful time that we are all shifting through and towards.

If your Solar Plexus Chakra (or liver) needs some love and focus you may experience the following if it is imbalanced, such as:

Lack of energy, weakness, any allergies, fatigue, low self-esteem, digestion and liver problems, control issues, misuse of power, manipulative tendencies, lack of clear direction and focus, lack of ambition and purpose, lacking in confidence, feeling guilty, feeling insecure, procrastinating, hyperactivity, doing too much, stress, anxiety, panic attaches, anger issues, frustrated, feeling powerless, poor self image, lack of willpower, problems with losing or gaining weight, poor digestion, gas, nausea, diabetes, respiratory problems, arthritis, nerve pain, excessive laziness, hypersensitivity, trusting others more than yourself, unable to stand up for yourself, taking on too much responsibility, feeling the need to be right, depression, confusion, eating disorders, ulcers, aggressiveness, judgemental, emotional outbursts, self-conscious, inactivity, doubt, inferiority and superiority complex, perfectionism, workaholic, being overly critical, adrenal fatigue, exhaustion, giving more of yourself than you have, intensity and doing too much...

Below are some ways that can help this area of the body and help balance the energy. It can also allow us to come out of our heads and back into our bodies and our bodies connection to the self.

Through the process of cleansing, grounding and healing with food, taking actions and choosing to take steps forward into the new.

2. CLEANSE THE BODY

In winter we often find ourselves craving hearty heavier meals. Then there is the festive season where we overload on indulgent feasts and guzzle down countless drinks while exhausting ourselves with all the parties we couldn’t miss out on.

Now is the time to renew and regenerate your body from the inside out. Just as we spring clean our homes, we also need to spring clean our body, especially our digestive system. Put simply, it is time to focus on digestion and detoxification.

TOP TIP: Liver energy is green, just like spring. Activate and nourish your liver Qi (energy) by adding fresh green and sour foods, such as green leafy foods, to your diet.

Cleanse Your Diet

Use bitter foods to cut through those feelings of being stuck or congested.

Bitter taste is especially cleansing for the liver and blood and also stimulates digestive enzymes and reduces hunger. Some examples are dandelion greens, arugula, sesame seeds, citrus, walnuts, green tea or olives.

Include good quality liquids throughout the day; such as plenty of water, fresh vegetable juices and herbal teas like nettle, mint, fennel or a ginger lemon. Enjoy simple broths or soups made with leeks, celery, spring onions and Chinese cabbage, and lightly seasoned with miso.

Early Spring has always been the time when fresh herbs were used to detox from the Winter months. You can try fresh mint, cilantro, parsley or even a nettle soup. Experiment with spices like coriander, turmeric, ginger, cumin and fennel.

As spring is associated with the liver, it is important to have a diet that strengthens and cleanses the liver. Here are some foods that are great for the liver and perfect for you new spring diet -

Your Spring Diet:

Alfalfa Algae Asparagus Basil Broccoli Celery Citrus Collard Greens Cucumber

Fennel Fermented Food Ginger Kale Lettuces Radish Seaweed Pickles Spirulina Sprouts Watercress Wheatgrass

Include a serving of sauerkraut or some lovely home-made radish pickles.

These are foods that support the blood and clear heat and stagnation.

  • Cut down on alcohol, starchy foods and sugar, which are hard to digest and hurt the spleen and stomach.

  • Spring is a good time to reduce salt and oil intake and to lighten up cooking using less grains and more quickly cooked, colourful dishes.

  • Furthermore, eat early. Chinese Medicine believes that the night time is for cleansing and healing the body from the day before. By eating late at night you risk disturbing the liver and gallbladder Qi (energy) as the body will use the energy to digest rather than cleanse.

3. SPRING CLEAN

In spring it is just as important to detox your home as it is your body. To start fresh it requires removing toxins from our daily routine. It is an important time for cleaning and improving harmony, not only on the inside but also in our surroundings. Open the windows to the fresh spring air and start cleaning the home. Do as much as you can to reduce your toxic load by choosing natural cleaning products and natural personal care products for your body.

It is a great time to start getting regular massages. As massage stimulates the circulatory system, it supports the body’s natural detoxifying functions. Aromatherapy, Thai and Tui Na massage are all options you should consider indulging in when spring therapies that I recommend.

Although all massage feels great, relieves tension and increases energy, Thai and Tui Na massage use special techniques to help release blocked Qi (energy) that may have been caused by the sluggishness of winter.

Each of my treatments such as my Lomi Lomi, Intuitive Tui Na Meridian massage, my Chakra Aromatherapy and Chakra Massages, as well as my Aroma Bliss Massage all incorporate Thai and energy opening and unblocking massage techniques to allow any stagnant or blocked energy to be able to flow more freely, and for you to feel more relaxed, open and lighter in your body.

I also recommend some other energy healing sessions, that can be really powerful this time of year at getting rid of any emotional and mental blocks that massage cannot clear. Such as Chakra Healing with my Crystal healing sessions, Aura cleansing with my sound healing energy massage, which is a massage on a cellular level. Using one or more handmade Himalayan bowls, made from at least seven different metals and varying in size and weight, the bowls produce sound across a range of frequencies and are used to target different parts of the body accordingly.

It's incredibly deep healing that leaves you feeling lighter, calmer and nourished to the core. From relaxing the mind to preventing stress and fatigue. This powerful healing treatment promotes deep mental and emotional well-being, muscular relaxation and an overall sense of balance and deep peace of the whole body. You can read more about sound healing here, Ive also written a recent blog post on the very subject that you may find interesting here.

I also recommend regular Reiki sessions during this time and in all my sessions I include the use of healing crystals and gemstones that help the energies cleanse, detoxify and balance and restore your subtle energy frequency. This in-turn helps your bodies organs associated to each individual energy centre in your body as well as increasing you life force energy and bringing your energy and bodies health back into alignment.

It's a great time to be having any or all of these treatments and therapies this time of year, especially as I have an offer running for the whole of Easter from 4th till 22nd April 2023. 4. COME OUT OF HIBERNATION

Like all things in nature, we often find ourselves living sedentary lifestyles, retreating into our warm homes during the cold winter months. As hibernating animals awake and flowers start to bloom, spring encourages us to fling open the windows and get outside to replenish Qi (energy) with good quality air.

Remember making simple changes in your daily routine and diet can make a huge difference to your health and wellbeing. For more advice on how you can improve your personal health please contact my husband Ravi Singh, who is a qualified Nutritionist and would be happy to help with any dietary advice and guidance, especially for supplementation.

5.CLEANSE YOUR THOUGHTS

Write down three things that are going well in your life and why?

Try this exercise daily for a week to bring in more nourishing energy.

Here are some other helpful tips to help you set healthy mindset thoughts that can have a positive impact not only on your mental health, but also for your everyday life.

Positive psychology has shown how important the emotions of hope and joy are to human happiness, and one of the key elements is optimism. Optimism has a huge effect on us, optimists have been found to become ill less often, recovering from any illness more quickly than others, and they also live longer.

Springtime has always been thought of as a time for change, you can embrace the sense of optimism and enthusiasm by having a good clear out – a spring clean. Spring cleaning is valuable to us as a way of clearing out any clutter from our homes and our minds and bringing in the new, symbolising new beginnings.

Try these healthy mindset tips:

  • At the end of each day, write three blessings that you are grateful for.

They can be simple like having a laugh with a friend, watching children play, or a beautiful woodland hike with your dog.

  • Try a ‘negative thought rant’ on a weekly basis and write down every negative thought that comes into your mind. It only takes 5 minutes. You can then tear the paper up and throw it away.

  • While walking outdoors pay attention to something beautiful. It could be wild daffodils in the hedgerow, a gorgeous tree in blossom or water rushing over rocks. Notice how it makes you feel. Carry the energy of nature within you as you go about your day.

Lack of motivation or losing motivation is the most common reason why people stop pursuing their dreams and desires. This guide will help you to focus on what you really want and help you to prioritise what is most important to you, regarding your health, happiness and wellbeing. As well as how to stay motivated and to achieve what you want.

The effervescent energy of Spring is going to move you whether you like it or not. This is the time to get outside and experience the power of nature.

Early morning exercise is specially beneficial as it makes the most of this enthusiastic energy. Walking is ideal to slow your mind and gently detox your body. Dancing to your favourite songs or stretches that twist the body are wonderful for removing toxins.

An Epsom salt bath is a lovely detox. It activates fluid movement in the tissues, increases perspiration, relaxes muscles and clears your energy field. Good for stress too.

Try a ginger foot bath to relax and improve sleep. Simply add 1 generous tablespoon of fresh grated ginger to a small tub of semi-hot water. Soak your feet for 15 minutes. Or give yourself a gentle foot massage with almond oil and lavender essential oil. Both treatments are marverlous for grounding and soothing the system.
