Here Are Some Simple Strategies to Achieve Your New Year's Goals

There's a reason why most people give up on their New Year's resolutions or their goals in life.

It's always because they're too big on dreams, but little on action. Or maybe you give up because immediate progress is hard to see. Whatever your reason, it's possible to make adjustments in your approach until you get what you want. Just like most things in life, you shouldn't decide to undertake major life changes on a whim.

If you're truly serious about setting yourself up with a lasting New Year's resolution, treat it like any other major life goal.

You first have to learn to make the goals that you can actually follow through on. Make effective resolutions that support you and lead you towards the destiny you desire. Create unstoppable momentum by creating resolutions and goals that lead to small, continuous victories.

Focus on what kinds of changes you really want to make in your life. Do you want to lose weight? Quit smoking? Go back to school? Write a novel?

There are all kinds of things you may want to do, both big and small. In order to get them done, you have to first get started.

State your intentions, plan out your actions, and maintain the will to follow through.

  • It's Important To State Your Goal

When it comes envisioning your goal, don't be afraid of dreaming too big or being too specific. During this phase you don't want to hold yourself back. The sky is truly the limit.

I go more into this in my 'NEW YEAR, NEW YOU, NEW STARTS' workbook and guide that helps you to do this step by step in a relaxed and fun way.

Then fill in the details with achievable tasks that will enable you to reach your goal. If you want to lose weight, specify how much and by when. If you want to give up an addiction, specify what you're going to do to make it happen.

Consider these goal setting tips:

• Set an attainable goal. Remember that you're not superwoman. • Be clear. State your goal in as few words as possible, but make your end goal clear.

• Be honest. Ensure you're setting this goal because it's something that you want to change in yourself.

  • Have an Action Plan

Some people fall short simply because they failed to create an action plan. However, without a plan you'll make your goal much more difficult, if not impossible, to achieve.

Here are some tips for creating an action plan:

1. Break your plan into parts.

If you take everything in all at once, it may seem overwhelming. If you have a big goal, break it down into smaller, bite-sized chunks. Saying you want to write five books next year, lose 100 pounds, or get your 4-year degree are goals that are very worthwhile goals. But they're only attainable if you break them down into smaller actions you can accomplish in real life. Write down the actions you must take to write those books, lose those pounds, or get that degree. What one small action can you take today to move yourself closer to your goal? Take that action, and write down actions you can take each day for the next ten days.

When you do, you'll create unstoppable momentum toward the success you deserve. If you break your plan up, though, you're only looking at a bunch of mini goals. If you still feel overwhelmed, break your resolution and goals down even further. You'll already be seeing the end of the tunnel when you begin, so you'll find it easier as you complete each step.

2. Keep your mind on your goal.

As you plan out each step toward your goal, keep that New Year's resolution in mind. There's a reason why you picked that goal to work on for the New Year. It's because it's important to you.

When you decide what really matters to you, you are more likely to achieve it and make it happen!

3. Include motivation.

Motivation might be the thing that gives you the most trouble. You may start out exceptionally motivated, but then tend to lose that enthusiasm as the year progresses. Remember to write certain motivations into your plan for when the chips are down. Remember to reward yourself at each small victory. Keep reminding yourself about why you're doing the things you're doing. That way, you'll stay motivated and excited throughout the year to come.

  • Follow Through and Keep Your Goals Alive

Tracking your progress is vital to successfully keeping your New Year's resolutions and goals. Pay close attention to your progress. Make an effort even when you want to throw in the towel.

The only way to fail at New Year's resolutions or goal is to give up.

Notice what's working and what needs to change in your approach, and then adapt your tactics until you get what you want. Setbacks provide great feedback that helps you to get on track. Use your setbacks to set yourself up for an even bigger comeback. When you do that, you'll get more accomplished than you expected to, even if you fall short of your goal. Above all, decide what's important to you and go after it with all your might. When you do, you'll begin to experience the fulfilling life you deserve.

Imagine how good you'll feel when you achieve success with your New Year's resolution and your goals! Rather than being part of the masses of people who simply forget their resolution or goals, you can be one of the few who achieve their goal.

Do whatever it takes to keep yourself pumped as you follow through. You might want to set certain reminders for yourself. For example, you can start each month by re-reading the goal you declared.

In the end, the process is quite simple. State your goal, have an action plan, and then follow through with that plan. Remember that you can do anything when your mind is in the right place and you take action to get what you want!

Invest in yourself and you'll be rewarded with amazing feel-good results.
