International Yoga Day

And the Summer Solstice 2023!


Today we celebrate at Pure Bliss Holistic Therapies - International Yoga Day. Which is yearly celebrated around the world on the Summer Solstice!


It is actually the 9th International Day of Yoga.


Today it is practiced in various forms around the world and continues to grow in popularity.

Recognising its universal appeal, on 11 December 2014, the United Nations proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga.


The International Day of Yoga aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga.


It serves as a global platform to raise awareness about the various benefits of practicing yoga.


The word yoga means to unite or to join. This symbolises the union of body and consciousness, and the philosophy originated in India about 5,000 years ago. One of the original goals of yoga was spiritual growth. Another goal was mastery over the physical and mental body. Today, two billion people around the world do yoga, some a form of exercise, and others to relieve stress. They have discovered all of yoga’s health benefits and that attributes to its growing popularity.


For me Yoga is my way of life and I have been practising yoga every single day now for over 18 years. I'm also a qualified Yoga teacher and trained in India in the foothills of the Himalayas - Rishikesh over 19 years ago.


I have also written two yoga books for beginners and more experienced yoga enthusiasts.
