How To Have Happy Hormones!

Updated: Nov 23, 2021

Hi Ladies,

I often get a lot of my clients asking about ways to balance and harmonise crazy hormonal imbalances that either show up with the heavy and painful periods, skin issues, extra weight issues around the mid section, hips and thighs, lack of sleep, low libido, issues with fertility and the onset of early or ongoing menopausal symptoms and issues.

Hormones have a profound effects on your mental, physical and emotional health.Hormonal ups and downs can wreak havoc on your life.  They can affect your mood, your weight, your food cravings, even your desire for sex. These chemical messengers play a major role in controlling your appetite, weight and mood, among other things.

Normally, your endocrine glands produce the precise amount of each hormone needed for various processes in your body. However, hormonal imbalances have become increasingly common with today's fast-paced modern lifestyle. In addition, certain hormones decline with age, and some people experience a more dramatic decrease than others.

With many of my female clients today suffering with the effects of hormonal imbalance and hormonal changes during their 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's. Many having heavy and painful periods, planning a pregnancy, and wanting to conceive naturally, having babies and stages of Menopause also effecting every stage of a women's health and well-being are all affected by a healthy hormonal balance and response in the body. I know from my own personal experience due to my own hormonal imbalances for years that I have had to manage and work with.

That is why I put together my therapeutic knowledge of the body, hormonal health and wellbeing as well as help from my husband, nutritionists and chef who specialises with hormonal health and adrenal fatigue. (being and living with me for over 15 years was one reason due to my huge issues with hormonal health and adrenal fatigue is why he is very passionate about this subject as much as I am now)

For me my hormonal health has played a massive part in my life, having adrenal fatigue all throughout my mid 20's living a very high life working 6-7 days a week in the middle east, on cruise ships and luxury spas in London for over 10 years, all soon took its toll on me. Then having early onset of menopause at the age of 35-36 wasn't much fun either and going grey in my 30's and having polyps and fibroids in my uterus, hair finning and falling out and much more. It was very scary. For me it was a massive change in lifestyle and mindset and complete change in my diet and what i did in my life that helped me.

I can certainly say that things are sooo much better now for me, my periods that I used to have was soooo painful from the age of 14 to 30 and being on the pill for 13 years and then finally coming off of it was intense also... I also used to bleed sooo much that it would run all the way down my legs and cover my underwear, towels and clothes. So going out during those 3 days of my heaviest stages of my periods was a no go, and work had to end also, because it was debilitating. So I often had to take 3 -4 days off work and being self employed with my own business really took its toll on me financially also. And not being able to be fully there for my clients during this stage wasn't the ideal situation.

Luckily for me I had my husband who banged on time and time again, until one day I woke up and decided to make a change for good and for the better and I'm not going to lie, it was tough, long and interesting at the same time.

That is why hormonal health and the work that I do now is so important to me and that is why I want to help others who are going through the same or are having similar issues around hormonal health.

Today I am having healthy periods, no intense bleeding, it doesn't bleed down my legs anymore, I feeling much better, my grey hair I once had has gone (I only have the one or two tiny strands and I haven't dyed my hair in 8 years), I have less hair fall and a fuller ficker hair than I did in my 20's and I'm now 41 years old.

I also have more energy and I'm very careful and mindful with what I consume, I exercise everyday and love to be active, unlike when i was in my late 20's - 30's where i would drive in my car all the time to just pop down to the shops which was less than a mile away each day. Now my car is more in the drive than ever before and I walk everyday, I trek and climb mountains all over the world, swim, dance, do my yoga everyday in the morning and the evening and I meditate to keep myself grounded and balanced in all that I do.

Now I offer a unique therapy that has been already healing my clients health, wellbeing and balancing there hormones at a healthy level, so that they can have a more happier and enjoyable life. And enjoy being female and learning more about our amazing bodies and how we can naturally harness our own health, wellbeing and balance into our everyday life in this modern era that we all live in.

Many of my clients are going through Perimenopause or Postmenopausal stages and it can be a difficult time. The Menopause process takes place over years, menopause is commonly divided into these two stages. Perimenopause is the time a woman begins experiencing menopausal signs and symptoms, even though she is still ovulating. During this normal process of four years or more, hormone levels rise and fall unevenly.Postmenopause is once 12 months have passed since a woman’s last period, she has reached menopause. The ovaries produce much less estrogen and progesterone, and they don’t release eggs. The years that follow are called postmenopause. Signs and Symptoms of Perimenopause and Postmenopausal: While every woman experiences menopause differently, the most common physical and emotional changes include:

Irregular periods, Decreased fertility, Vaginal and urinary changes; like dryness and incontinence, Hot flashes, Dry skin and headaches,Insomnia and other sleep disturbances, Night sweats and heart palpitations, Changes in appearance, primarily fluid weight gain, Emotional and cognitive changes including mood swings, depression and forgetfulness.

Massage therapy has the unique ability to improve many of these symptoms.

Problems our Body Faces

Stress can wreak havoc on your hormones. This havoc can come in the form of bad PMS, heavy bleeding, stubborn acne, irritated mood or low mood, and much more. Two major hormones affected by stress are cortisol and adrenaline. Cortisol is known as "the stress hormone" because it helps your body cope with stress over the long term. Adrenaline is the "fight-or-flight" hormone that provides your body with a surge of energy to respond to immediate danger. However, unlike hundreds of years ago when these hormones were mainly triggered by threats from predators, today they're usually triggered by people's busy, often overwhelming lifestyles.

Unfortunately, chronic stress causes cortisol levels to remain elevated, and creates Hormonal imbalances which can lead to excessive calorie intake and obesity, including increased belly fat.

Elevated adrenaline levels can cause high blood pressure, rapid heart rate, heart disease and anxiety and other health problems. However, these symptoms are usually fairly short-lived because, unlike cortisol, adrenaline is less likely to become chronically elevated.Your hormones are involved in every aspect of your health. You need them in very specific amounts for your body to function optimally.

Despite the fact that ageing and other factors are beyond your control, there are many steps you can take to help your hormones function optimally. They are also important for our fertility. And I know most women, women like you, WANT to have children and healthy pregnancies. Massage is one of the ways that can help to balance the bodies production and regulation of Neurohormones which are produced by the nervous system and affect an individual’s behavior and general well-being.

Recent studies have solidly concluded that massage can help balance mood levels by moving your body toward homeostasis (a naturally balanced state) Massage also elevates the levels of dopamine, a neurohormone released by the hypothalamus gland that makes you feel good and can also raise the availability of serotonin, a neurohormone that regulates behaviour in terms of emotions, irritability and cravings for sex and food. Those low in serotonin often have difficulty sleeping and tend to suffer from depression and obsessive-compulsive disorders, not to mention lower sex drive and overall irritability.

Massage can increase the availability of growth hormones which promote cell division, and is involved in tissue repair, regeneration, and healing.

Here are some more health and well-being benefits that massage can have on the body and mind:

  2. Reduces Anxiety,

Traditional Swedish Massage – Research has demonstrated that the more stress in a woman’s life, the more severe her menopausal and hormonal imbalance symptoms. This modality relaxation qualities help to balance and relax the body that it can naturally re-set its natural rhythm and balance. In the massage you receive a relaxing and easing massage on the back that treats the back, neck and shoulders as well as the lower back and hip area to loosen tight and restricted muscles. Leaving you feeling much more relaxed and balanced.

Reflexology – Some of the points used in foot reflexology may help restore hormonal balance: kidney, adrenal gland, pituitary, brain, uterus, thyroid, heart and liver all play an active role in helping to maintain a healthy hormonal balance in the body. By treating the feet and hands can have a hugely beneficial advantage to hormonal health and well-being. And its super relaxing!

Acupressure – Traditional Chinese Medicine views menopause as a natural decline in Kidney and Spleen energies. Acupressure is included in the massage which can help to stimulate these meridians and can bring the client back into hormonal balance. Additionally, working on the liver meridian will enhance overall energetic flow, thus reducing stress and balancing the hormonal and energetic system and pathways.

The therapy includes a relaxing traditional Swedish back massage that focuses on relaxing and releasing any tension around the shoulders, neck and upper and lower back including the hips to melt away any tension and pain. Then you are turned over for a  relaxing Acupressure head, face, neck and shoulder massage, focusing on pressure points around the energy pathways to allow relaxation and balancing of the hormonal system. Then a relaxing Hand and foot reflexology massage that both help the body to naturally release happy hormones that are needed for healing and balancing the body and the mind.
