NATURAL WAYS TO BOOST THE IMMUNE SYSTEM

What is the Immune System?


THE BODY’S DEFENSE MECHANISM

· THE Immune system is the body’s defense mechanism.

· It is highly adaptive, and can be programmed & reprogrammed according to the new problems it encounters.

· It fights viruses & bacteria & clears out damaged tissue, destroys abnormal cells.

· Physical barriers are the first line of defense.

· If these are penetrated, Innate or Natural immunity provides an immediate non-specific response.

· Third line of defense. Adaptive immunity adapts its response to improve its recognition of the pathogens.

KEY CONCEPTS:

  • Common to all the response are the barrier structures (Skin/Epithelium) and the innate immune response located within.

  • A key tool in the process is inflammation- a natural response to damage or invasion that allows body to fights or repair it.

  • There are two broad types of responses-TH1 (chronic inflammation) and TH2 (Allergy).

  • The inflammatory response is controlled by a number of messenger systems: interleukins, T Reg. cells, histamines and prostaglandins.


BOOSTING IMMUNITY:

  • Gut Flora: Difference in the indigenous intestinal flora might affect the development and priming of the immune system in early childhood.

  • Lack of adequate macronutrients & selected micronutrients, (especially Zinc and selenium) can lead to immune deficiency and infections.

  • Respiratory infections may increase one’s risk of developing asthma especially in young children.

  • A history of bronchiolitis or croup in early childhood is a predictor or asthma risk in later life.

  • Common persistent and debilitating childhood infections include tonsillitis and otitis media.



PROTOCOL FOR STRENGTHENING THE IMMUNE SYSTEM:


1. Food is one of the best ways to keep and strengthen a healthy immune system: (Try to consume more Organic food and drink if possible)


  • Fruits such as All Berries, Oranges, Tangerines, Kiwi, Papaya, mango, watermelon, Pomegranate

  • Vegetables such as: Sweet Potatoes, Mushrooms, Spinach, Broccoli, Avocado, Tomatoes, Peppers, Kale, Swish Chard, Brussel Sprouts, Cauliflower, Green Beans, artichokes, chicory root

  • Garlic

  • Ginger

  • Turmeric

  • Chillies

  • Nuts - almonds and seeds - flaxseeds

  • Olive and Walnut Oil

  • Fish - Salmon, sacral, sardines

  • Organic Eggs

  • Kefir

  • Kombucha

  • Oats

  • Miso Soup

  • Cacao

  • Pomegranate Juice

  • Elderberry

  • Gingseng tea

  • Green, Black and White Tea

  • Chlorella
